According to the legends it was the residence of god Aeolus – Greek god of wind – what made people be scared of this island. As well as all the other Aeolian Islands Vulcano is of volcanic origin. It lies 30 km north from the coast of Sicily. You can find here exotic nature, famous mud lake with healing effects on rheumatism, and sought after black beaches with hot water. There is a good connection to the other Aeolian Islands from Vulcano.
Its hot springs are located within walking distance from the port. If you have your swimming trunks with you, you can just dip in immediately. The water is nice and warm, and it's free to go in. You can also walk up to the crater where you will see many places where smoke comes out of the ground. The smell of sulphur is all around you.
