The best opportunities for swimming provides town Jelsa on the north coast, about 10 km from Stari Grad. Hotel complexes are located outside the port on the wooded hillside. The beaches here are mostly rocky with gravel points. The town has a cozy center with burgher houses, churches and cafes, perfect for relaxation.

On the southwestern coast of the island is the capital of the island town of Hvar. Its center is the large square in the port. Cathedral of St. Stephen dominates the town. On the slope to the north of the city is Spanish fortress Španjola which is now a restaurant overlooking the Gulf port, old town and Pakleni islands.

On the northwest coast, about 20 km from the town of Hvar is situated in the bay town of Stari Grad. Hotel complexes are located outside the town center, where the creek begins to widen. In the city center where are the most significant landmarks (the summer residence of the poet Petara Hektoroviča) leads seaside promenade. The residence includes a garden with many rare plants and a remarkable lake.
