The region of Apulia, Puglia in Italian, is located
in the southeastern part of Italy. It stretches from the "spur"
(Gargano) to the heel of the boot (Salento). In Apulia you can see
antique architectural buildings called "trulli". These
are white buildings made of stone, built into a ring and they have
a conical roof. In all these coastal centres fishing is a characteristic.
GARGANO is a mountainous peninsula an area untouched by civilization
and a coast fringed with coves and wonderful natural forms. It
is an especially undulating region with limestone caves, luxuriant
vegetation, olive groves, with many sandy beaches and a clear
sea.
Rodi Garganico - an antique town - the entrance door of the Gargano
- is built on a high stony rock-mass and is a beautiful historical
centre.
Peschici - it is the most beautiful town of the Gargano. The historical
part of the town that consists of oriental buildings from the
14th century and narrow alleyways is built on a rock.
Viste - originally a fishing and agricultural town with typical
white, low buildings built in an oriental style.
SALENTO is a peninsula that lies on the "border" of
two seas - the Adriatic and Ionian that meet at the cape of Santa
Maria di Leuca. The region of Salento is characteristic for its
rich subtropical vegetation and especially favourable climatic
conditions. Thanks to its clear sea it is suitable for diving.
Porto Ceasaro - an important fishing town in the western coast
of Saletno that is characteristic with its long sandy beaches
and low rocky cliffs. The picturesque centre and the beautiful
fishing port with restaurants, which offers fishing specialities
enjoyed by the inhabitants of Lecce, contributes to an agreeable
holiday.
Lido Marini - an attractive sea holiday centre on the Ionian sea
is situated between the towns of Santa Maria di Leuca and Galliopoli.
Torre del Orso - is on one of the most beautiful seas in Italy.
White beaches with fine sand and limestone cliffs are attractive
for those, who like diving. Nearby there is Otranto - town, which
comes alive at night.
